Maintenance you can complete today
Whether you checked your HVAC system six days, six months, or six years ago, the following tasks can be easily completed with little time and money, and should improve your system’s performance almost immediately.
- Remove all leaves, grass, pollen, and dust from air conditioning and heating units
- Make sure there is two feet of space around the external air conditioning and heating units
- Inspect refrigerant lines (this should be completed monthly)
- Ensure external units are on firm and level ground
- Change your air filter (this should be completed quarterly, at minimum)
Maintenance you can complete in the next few months
The following tasks may take a bit longer to complete but should definitely be completed. They will help your HVAC system prepare for the colder temperatures.
- Replace the humidifier filter (and turn on the water if you turned it off for the summer)
- Check all gas/oil connections, gas pressure, burner combustion, and the heat exchanger (improper connections are fire and health hazards)
- Seal up window seams and replace insulation in the attic
